The organizers of the Golden Apricot International Film Festival are planning open-air film screenings as part of the 2017 annual event.

The initiative was made possible thanks to collaboration with the Yerevan City Hall, a deputy mayor of the capital, Aram Sukiasyan, told reporters on Friday.

He said that they expanded the geography of open-air shows as part of the municipality’s program to ensure the proportional development of the city. “The park surrounding the Swan Lake (close to the opera house) used to be the traditional venue; this year however, those wishing to watch open-air films can also visit the Yerevan Cascade, [the square surrounding] the Gai Statue in [the administrative district] Nor Nork, the South-Western District, the Hayastan Cinema, Liberty Square, and the Swan Lake which is the traditional site,” he said.

This year's festival will take place from 9 to 16 July.

The program also includes open-air concerts. In the late evening hours, jazz fans will be offered a unique chance to listen to favorite bands and enjoy popular jazz pieces from films at the Charles Aznavour Square.

The festival's founding director, Harutyun Khachatryan, said they tried to arrange an eventful program "to attract the audience with wonderful movies."

He thanked the municipal authorities for assistance in the project.
