Felice Varini’s pictorial intervention HEXAGONES, DISQUES ET TRAPÈZES will be on display at Yerevan

Felice Varini’s pictorial intervention HEXAGONES, DISQUES ET TRAPÈZES will be on display at Yerevan Central Railway Station, Erebuni district, during two months from September 12 to November 12, 2017.

The Swiss painter Felice Varini transforms urban spaces by using architecture as the canvas for his masterpieces. His abstract forms play an impressive game around the focal point and give new meaning to urban contexts, architecture and buildings which are sometimes little noticed or simply stuck in their past historical reality. Felice Varini's global renown is able to attract the attention of world artists, urbanists and architects to our host country, its capital Yerevan with its fascinating urban spaces, and notably the quarter of Erebuni which is rather off the paths beaten by the typical foreign visitors. The artist himself chose the capital’s district of Erebuni as the place to realise his pictorial intervention. Erebuni is an industrial part of Yerevan which has faced particular challenges during the transition of the country since its independence. The Embassy of Switzerland in Armenia is convinced that this project also bears much social relevance and has much potential to enhance the beautiful urbanistic and architectural surroundings of this little-known part of the capital by giving it new intrinsic value.

This unique exhibition is an initiative of the Embassy of Switzerland in Armenia in partnership with Presence Switzerland, agency of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). This innovative work of art is a an integral part of STANDART, Armenia’s first Triennial of Contemporary Art, under the curatorship of Adelina Cüberyan von Fürstenberg, winner of the Meret Oppenheim prize of the Swiss Federal Office of Culture and of the Golden Lion for Best National Participation by the 2015 Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art.

Other partners in this common endeavour are the Armenian Arts Council, ART for the World Geneva, Hasratyan Foundation and the South Caucasus Railways.
