Tom Hardy shaves head to play Al Capone 

Tom Hardy was snapped Monday on the New Orleans, Louisiana set of Chasing Fonzo, the Al Capone biopic he's been working on under director Josh Trank.

The 40-year actor had a cleanly-shorn head and wore a dark ashy grey T-shirt that read Gravel across the chest, with knee-length black Adidas athletic shorts and red-and-white Nike trainers, the Daily Mail reports.

Hardy held onto a wig on a mannequin's head as he made his way through the set of the crime drama, which production commenced on Monday, according to the Times-Picayune. 

The film follows Capone – “a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist” and “the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore,” according to a press release from producers - as the Chicago mobster struggled in his later life.

“At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse's mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life,” according to the release.

The movie is directed and written by Josh Trank, the filmmaker of Fantastic Four fame, and co-stars Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon and Kyle MacLachlan.

Hardy last week shared an Instagram shot of himself sitting in a chair on the set of the forthcoming film that read, “Chasing Fonzo...”
