Turkish author of Genocide movie ‘away from home’ amid strong fears
A Turkish-German director of an Armenian Genocide movie has revealed his concerns in a recent interview, saying that he has been away from home for three years "amid fears of a strong criticism".
Fatih Akin, who produced The Cut in 2014, said the fim caused many in Turkey to brand him as a "traitor of nation".
“Turkey is facing a difficult period, which really troubles me a lot. Hatred and xenophobia have poisoned the whole country. They have stretched their roots deep in the Turkish society. So I have to keep away from the present-day Turkish state; I don’t have plans to shoot any film there,” he told the publication Tuhaf.
Akin also shared his perceptions of the current developments in the country. “The top class used to exploit the provincials who are now taking revenge, having seized power,” he noted.
