Serj Tankian warns against speculations over Armenian Genocide
US-Armenian rock musician Serj Tankian has issued a strong call recommending against speculations over the Armenian Genocide issue in different countries’ pursuit of national and foreign policy interests.
“History is not subjective. Please don’t use the Genocide of our Armenian, Greek and Assyrian ancestors as political capital or canon fodder for your ill-conceived foreign policy discourses. If you don’t like the asshole you’re sleeping with, that’s a result of your poor choices. Recognize the Genocide because it’s the truth,” reads his recent post on Facebook.
On May 16, two members of the Israeli Knesset proposed a bill recognizing the Armenian Genocide.
It came after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan branded Israel as a terrorist state when commenting upon the situation in the Gaza Strip. He also recalled the Turkish ambassadors in Tel-Aviv and Washington to Ankara for “political consultations”.
In his response to the Turkish leader, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described him as the last person to teach them lessons of morality.
