A special exhibition dedicated to the “velvet revolution” opened at the Academy of Fine Arts on Tuesday to awaken memories and revitalize historic moments of the popular campaign which led to drastic government change processes in the country.

“Velvet Revolution: Between Image and Reality” will run until 24 July to showcase photos of leading media outlets, as well as iconic images.

“We have tried to fix the formation of artistic movements and feature images identifiable to us. But many authors have, for certain reasons, remained in the backstage due to the big event which, in a way, shadowed their role,” a student of the Academy, Naira Ghazaryan, told reporters.

The organizers have produced a video footage telling about the revolution of peace and solidarity, eternalizing also many popular slogans voiced by the activists over the period.

“I was active throughout the revolution, but tried to somehow watch the entire process with the eyes of an outsider to understand the ongoing processes through an image and the way it makes information accessible to people. It is really a very important mechanism potentially inspiring people to take to the streets,” Ghazaryan added.
