Oscar-winning French-Armenian composer Michel Legrand dies aged 86

Prolific French composer of Armenian descent Michel Legrand, who won three Oscars during a career spanning more than half a century, has died aged 86, France 24 reports, citing his spokesperson.

Legrand first won an Academy Award in 1969 for the song "The Windmills of Your Mind" from the film "The Thomas Crown Affair".

After that, he won Oscars for his music in the 1972 film "Summer of '42'" and "Yentl" in 1984.

Legrand passed away during the night, Euronews reports, citing his spokesman who talked to the AFP.

During his career, the composer worked with the likes of Miles Davies, Ray Charles, Orson Welles, Jean Cocteau, Frank Sinatra, and Edith Piaf.

He was scheduled to stage concerts in Paris this summer.
