Armenian actor, stage director Yervand Ghazanchyan dies at 82
Yervand Ghazanchyan, a popular Armenian actor and stage director, has died at age 82.
His son, Hakob Ghazanchyan, reported the sad news on Facebook on Tuesday evening.
Born in Yerevan in 1937, Ghazanchyan was trained as a professional actor at the Yerevan State Institute of Theatrical Art (currently: Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography). In the 1970s, he headed the Dramatic Theatre of Leninakan (Gyumri). Since 1993, Ghevondyan was an artistic director at the Hakob Paronyan Musical Comedy Theatre (Yerevan). Famed as a People’s Artist of Armenia, Ghevondyan came into prominence with his roles in several Armenian feature movies. In 2008, he was honored with the orders of St Sahak and St Mesrop of the Republic of Armenia.
