Newmag Publishing House on Monday held a special presentation event to introduce the Armenian edition of What is Populism?, a popular political best-seller by Jan-Werner Müller.

The book provides a clue as to the concept of populism and the general trends characterizing populist persons, presenting invaluable historiographic records on the political developments in Europe, United States and South America in the past centennial. The author, a Princeton University professor, elaborates on the actions and behavior of populists in their capacity as both government figures and opposition representatives. According to Müller, the book depicts examples of populism in numerous world countries to help readers identify and differentiate real populists.

Hovhannes Nokoghosyan who did the Armenian translation admits that the process was rather interesting "despite being arduous and obliging". ‟I treated this translation as a kind of public service for which I am really thankful to Newmag and all my colleagues. The key implication of the book is perhaps the fact that populism itself is an anti-populist phenomenon not tolerating pluralism and a multi-party system,″ he said.
