Prominent Armenian actor Yervand Manaryan dies at 95

Yervand Manaryan, a popular Armenian actor, director and scriptwriter, has passsed away at age 95, the artistic director of the Theatre of Changes says on Facebook.

″Our beloved grandfather has died,″ reads Hayk Sekoyan’s public post.

The Iran-born artist immigrated to Armenia in 1946, where he obtained his professional degree as a director from the Theatrical Institute (presently:  State Institute of Theatre and Cinema).

After several years of work at the Hakob Paronyan Musical Comedy Theatre and Gabriel Sundukyan National Academic Theatre, Manaryan moved to the Yerevan State Puppet Theatre where he worked as a general director from 1957 until 1959. Starting from 1988, Manaryan was an artistic director at the puppet theatre Agulis. From 1959 until 1961, he worked at the Goirs theatre. From 2007 onwards, Manaryan was the founding artistic director of the Armenian Puppet Theatre of Kiev (Ukraine). He later worked at the Yerevan Studio of Documentary movies and the Yerevan Cinematography Union. He was also among the best known general directors at the Yerevan State Puppet Theatre.
