Monument to legendary Armenian intelligence officer Gevork Vartanian to be erected in Moscow

The Moscow city authorities are considering a plan for erecting a monument to Gevork Vartanian, a Soviet-Armenian intelligence officer credited in his lifetime with foiling the Nazi plot to assassinate, or abduct Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

“The documents on erecting the monument are now under consideration at the City Hall. They have responded positively to the idea,” Tass.ru quotes Sergey Ivanov, an official of the Foreign Intelligence Service, as telling a public presentation of a book revealing untold chapter from Vartanian's life.

Designed by architect Alexander Golovachev, the monument will be erected in the viccinities of a school which may reportedly be named after the legendary agent.

Honored as a Stalin Hero for his famous feat, Vartanian died in Moscow in January 2012.

His wife Gohar Vartanian, also an intelligence agent, died on November 25, 2019.
