The Sophene Armenian Library has prepared the renewed and re-edited version of The Fool, a famous novel by the leading 19th century Armenian author Raffi, for its English language readers.

"Very excited to announce our forthcoming translation of one of the best known works of Armenian literature, The Fool («Խենթը»). This is the one the people wanted, so we worked hard to be able to release on its 140th anniversary in 2020. Coming in November," reads a statement on the library's Twitter page.

The earliest English version of the novel was translated by Jane Wingate in 1950.

The library came up with the idea of releasing the revised edition after observing certain omissions from the original plot "leaving out several episodes and taking liberties with certain textual patterns".

The sponsors of the latest edition are Kimberley McFarlane and Beyon Miloyan. Its plot, based on the Russo-Turkish war, tells a romance set against the background of the divided Armenian nation.
