1929 թվականից սկսած՝ «Օսկար» ակադեմիական մրցանակաբաշխությունը եղել է ամենանշանակալի միջոցառումը շոուբիզնեսի օրացույցում: Անշուշտ, հեղինակավոր մրցանակաբաշխության ժամանակ քննարկվող  ամենաթեժ հարցն է, թե ով ին տեսք ունի կարմիր գորգով անցնելիս:


Ինչպես ներկայացնում է Daily Mail-ը`լավագույն դերասանուհի անվանակարգի հավակնորդուհիները ամենից շատ են հայտնվում տեսախցիկների ուշադրության կենտրոնում և պարտավորված են ներկայանալ անթերի տեսքով: Իսկ տեսքի ապահովման առաջին տարրը զգեստն է, որը նրանք ընտրում են լավագույն աշխարհահռչակ դիզայներներից:

In the 1920s and 30s, many of the dresses were demure with long sleeves and high necklines. By the forties, lower cut v-neck gowns were more en vogue with black being the colour worn by the winners in 1942 to 1945 when the globe was in the grip of the Second World War

Nipped in waists and full skirts reflect the trend the big, glamorous dresses in the Fifties while by the late Sixties and early Seventies, the rise of feminism is evident as winners Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda choose to wear trousers instead of gowns. Also in the seventies and then the eighties, a more demure look make a comeback

From the Nineties onwards, the actresses seem to become more daring with their gown choices with more colour and embellishment. In the 21st century, strapless and one shoulder dresses become more popular with pale shades featuring more often than dark
