Երգչուհի և դերասանուհի Բարբրա Սթրեյզանդը, կինոռեժիսոր, սցենարիստ և պրոդյուսեր Սթիվեն Սփիլբերգը, ջութակահար Իցհակ Փերլմանը, երգահան, պոետ և դրամատուրգ Սթիվեն Սոնդհայմն արժանացել են ԱՄՆ քաղաքացիական բարձրագույն մրցանակին` Ազատության նախագահական մեդալին, փոխանցում է ՏԱՍՍ գործակալությունը:

ԱՄՆ նախագահ Բարաք Օբաման հանդիսավոր արարողության ժամանակ պարգևատրել է 17 քաղաքական, հասարակական գործիչների և գիտության, մշակույթի և սպորտի ազդեցիկ ներկայացուցիչների:

«Այսօր մենք պատվում ենք առանձնահատուկ մարդկանց` նորարարների, նկարիչների և առաջնորդների»,- նշել է Օբաման։

Ազատության նախագահական մեդալը բարձրագույն ամերիկյան պարգև է, որը շնորհում են քաղաքացիական անձանց։ Այն յուրաքանչյուր տարի հանձնում են մարդկանց, «ովքեր մեծ ներդրում են ունեցել ԱՄՆ-ի անվտանգության և ազգային շահերի պաշտպանության, ամբողջ աշխարհում խաղաղության աջակցության գործում»։

Entertainers honored at the event include Barbra Streisand, 73, who is one of few people who have received an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award

Those honored included those who have done decades of work in their fields, including singer-songwriter James Taylor
