Taking a stand: Shortly after the bomb side in west Baghdad had been cleared, Karim Wasfi, a former director for the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra, stepped into the blast centre with his cello and started playing

Astonishing: The street is still blackened and there is broken glass by the roadside as Mr Wasfi plays

Going viral: A large crowd gathered around the former Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra director

Inspiring: Witnesses described Mr Wasfi's music not as a song of mourning, but as a 'smoldering, fiery fugue that sent a clear message to the ether that Baghdad still stands strong'

Bomb: The attack took place on Tuesday, in Baghdad's western district of Mansour, when a car packed with explosives blew up, killing at least 20 people and wounding more than two dozen

True hero: Mr Wasfi, whose performance has since gone viral, said afterwards that although his cello could not challenge the bombs, 'we have an obligation to making to be dedicated to making life sustained'
